Research Design

Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods

In my experience, faculty members are often overwhelmed by increasing numbers of doctoral candidates. I had one client whose chair sat on more than 30 committees! Yes, your faculty chair and committee have primary responsibility for advising you!

And, I have a solid research background of my own that encompasses academia, industry, nonprofits, and communities. I often find myself supporting doctoral students in framing and defining their research, especially their research questions and hypotheses, strengthening what they have already created with their advisors and peers.

Literature Review and Statistics

Being a learning nerd, reading widely, and having edited so many dissertations is an advantage! I am often able to recommend additional research to bolster gaps in a client’s literature reviews. Sometimes, I suggest new information that supports and strengthens a client’s theoretical foundation.

I can also help keep statistics updated, when that is relevant. For example, I worked on a dissertation focusing on hate crimes and bias incidents on college campuses. Sadly, those statistics have increased dramatically since 2016, so I was able to support my client in having the most recent statistics included in her dissertation as she published.

Survey and Interview Protocol Design

In my doctoral program, I was involved in large, survey research projects. I advised industry professionals as they designed models for their work. As a professionally trained organizational coach, asking the right questions in a culturally sensitive way with the minimum of bias became a specialty. I can support you as you design your models, surveys, and interview protocols.
